Too Much (of Nothing): Loop Through for the Voyeur (2015)
Two channel synchronized video. Installation documentation clip.
When the right video looks out at the viewer the left video channel freezes, it resumes play when the right looks away from the viewer. This work vaguely deals with the “gaze”, how it feels to be looked at, and regaining control in a vulnerable situation (ie. being looked at when you cannot look back). This work is also about the passive gallery viewer, or the voyeurism that can sometimes inadvertently be promoted in an art gallery. I wanted to make a work that was not just looked at, but one that returned the viewer's gaze.
