How to Measure a Gaze (2017)

In this work I have created an electronic device which counts the length of time in which a viewer has been in front of a photographic portrait.

This work is dealing with the ethics of portraiture as presented in an art gallery context, counting the length of time in which a viewer looks at the photograph, both as a work of art, as well as a form of voyeurism. I am concerned by the positioning of portraits in the art gallery and how they are viewed in a voyeuristic way and subject to the gaze.
